FPL Gameweek Six Dilemmas: What’s Next for Joao Pedro?
As we dive into gameweek six, FPL expert Pras from BBC Sport tackles some pressing issues that managers are facing. Despite being the most offloaded player during the international break, Chelsea's Joao Pedro still holds the loyalty of around 65% of FPL managers. His points-per-million value is impressive, and with an enticing run of fixtures ahead for Chelsea, it makes sense to hang onto him—unless Xabi Alonso rules him out, in which case, it's bench time. This week’s captaincy race is particularly tricky. Erling Haaland faces a tough trip to Liverpool, while Cole Palmer takes on Bournemouth at home. Then there's Bukayo Saka, who kicks off early against Leeds, and Bruno Fernandes, who welcomes Spurs to Old Trafford. Fernandes boasts the most favorable fixture and potential for a big haul, although his ownership is low. I could be swayed to captain any of these players, but I’m playing it safe with Haaland. Even in a challenging match, he’s likely to be involved if City score. For those seeking a gamble, Saka or Palmer at home could be enticing options. However, Saka's appeal is dampened by a possible injury to Kai Havertz, which could disrupt Arsenal's attack, plus the early kickoff after a break. Palmer's situation is similarly clouded by Joao Pedro's fitness—without him, Chelsea's attacking threat takes a hit, as we saw against Brentford. Looking at potential new signings, the Arsenal defender has a slight knock from international duty. Cristhian Mosquera is fit, and William Saliba is on the mend, but his return timeline is uncertain. If you already have Saliba, I’d suggest holding onto him, as he still offers great value. If you’re on a wildcard or eyeing a free transfer, there are definitely better defensive options in the £5m range, in my opinion. Fulham has a favorable schedule with three promoted sides coming up, and I’m keen on Gonzalo Garcia at £6m. He might be on penalties, and his underlying stats are more promising than his FPL points indicate. Josh King is another solid pick, boasting strong data (0.44 xGI) and consistent minutes, having played the full 90 in three of the first five matches. While not an urgent sell, there are some FPL concerns about his role. Under Andoni Iraola, he’s been playing as an eight, which isn’t the best position for scoring points. He lacks the attacking threat of a ten and the defensive contributions of a full-back. Still, I wouldn’t rush to get rid of him just yet. Brighton’s midfielder is still priced under £6m and plays full matches, making him a popular transfer this week with 47 points already. His ownership is around 30%, and with fixtures against Sunderland and Crystal Palace coming up, he’s a reliable option who consistently delivers points.
