Jota Faces His Demons During Injury Layoff but Sees Light Ahead
Jota has revealed that his lengthy injury break led him to confront some personal challenges, but he’s in no hurry to rush back into peak form with Celtic. The 27-year-old Portuguese winger suffered a cruciate ligament injury back in April 2025, marking a tough period for him. Last weekend, he made his long-awaited return in a 2-0 victory against Motherwell. Coming off the bench again during Sunday’s commanding 7-1 win over Hearts, Jota believes this difficult chapter has only made him stronger. "I've met some demons and had some meaningful conversations with them," he shared. "Now, we have a good understanding, and we've even learned to laugh about what’s happened. "If you don’t learn from experiences like this, you’ve missed an opportunity for growth. I’ve gained new perspectives and started to appreciate things I might have taken for granted before. "I know what I want and who I am. There’s no wasted time here; I’ve grown significantly. It was a journey I had to take, and I’m coming out of it stronger than ever." Although Jota's playing time will be limited to domestic matches for now—he's not included in Celtic's Europa League squad—he's making the most of every minute he gets on the field. "My passion for football is immense," he said. "Some might shy away from returning due to the struggle, but that challenge was my motivation to stay focused on my recovery. "This is my dream and my passion. Sure, there were moments of darkness where it felt like there was no way forward, but my belief never wavered. I just had to find a different path. "My goal was always to return fully fit, no matter how long it took. I still have a long career ahead of me, and I’m young. So there’s no need to rush; I trust the process."
