Shake-Up in Scottish Football: Campbell Out, Lennon Takes Over at Dumbarton
East Fife has made the bold decision to sack veteran manager Dick Campbell following a dismal streak of eight League One matches without a win. The club's struggles were compounded by their early exit from the KDM Evolution Trophy, prompting the change. At 72 years old, Campbell joined East Fife in February 2024 after notable tenures at Arbroath and Forfar Athletic. His career boasts stints at several clubs, including Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle, and he achieved his seventh promotion by leading East Fife to success in the 2025 play-offs. Currently, East Fife finds themselves in seventh place, having secured just one win in ten attempts. Their recent 2-1 defeat to Cumbernauld Colts from the Lowland League not only eliminated them from the Challenge Cup but also highlighted their financial struggles, as stated by the club: "a financial blow at a time when the club has invested a record amount in players over the past two seasons." Alongside Campbell, his brother Ian and coaches Stuart Malcolm and John Young have also left the club, marking a significant shift in the coaching staff. On the other side of the league, Danny Lennon is stepping in as the interim manager at Dumbarton following the exit of Frank McKeown. Dumbarton currently sits sixth in League Two after a heavy 4-0 defeat to Clydebank, which also knocked them out of the KDM Evolution Trophy. Lennon, who had a tough stint at Airdrieonians last season where he couldn’t secure a win in eight matches, transitioned to a director of football role at Dumbarton in September. Now, he faces the challenge of revitalizing a struggling team as they aim to turn their fortunes around.
