SPFL Sees Record Payouts as Clubs Benefit from Skyrocketing Revenue
The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has made headlines by distributing a staggering £49.6 million to its clubs over the past year.
This marks an 18% increase, translating to an additional £7.6 million, with the majority of the funds stemming from broadcasting contracts, licensing, match data, and sponsorship deals.
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster commented, "In an increasingly competitive international rights market, these results are testament to the enduring attraction of the SPFL."
He emphasized that these are the best financial results in the league's history, boasting record turnover and total group distributions. The league is committed to maintaining this upward trajectory.
Last season, Scottish Premiership attendances soared above four million for the first time, showcasing the league’s ability to draw in the highest per capita crowds in Europe.
Uefa’s figures reveal that around six million Scottish fans tuned in to watch men's matches during the 2025-26 season, with 900,000 in the lower leagues, 200,000 attending domestic cup matches, and 800,000 at European fixtures.
Doncaster added, "Successfully balancing broadcast revenue with match-day attendances and the unique atmosphere created within packed stadia is central to the SPFL being recognized widely as one of the most intense, compelling, and emotive sporting competitions in the world."
