Troy Deeney's Premier League Picks: Stars of the Week
Every week, BBC football pundit Troy Deeney rounds up his top players and manager following the latest Premier League matches. This week’s selections are here, and we want to hear your opinions in the comments section below.
Walter Benitez of Crystal Palace had a crucial moment when he saved a powerful shot from Liam Delap, deflecting it off his face. That save was pivotal, helping Palace secure victory when it could have easily turned disastrous.
Ferdi Kadioglu from Brighton stepped up big time with a critical block in the second half that prevented a potential equalizer. Known more for his offensive contributions, Kadioglu showcased his defensive prowess just when his team needed it most.
Jefferson Lerma, typically a midfielder, impressed as a makeshift center-back for Crystal Palace. He not only scored a goal but also made significant tackles and helped facilitate play from the back, earning his spot on this week’s list.
James Justin, now with Leeds, has transformed since his days at Leicester. His ability to excel as both a right wing-back and center-back is commendable. He scored a stunning goal, and honestly, he deserves way more credit for his performances.
Ethan Pinnock’s move from Brentford to Coventry raised some eyebrows, but he’s proven to be a solid addition. His physical presence and leadership on the pitch have been vital, contributing to Coventry's steady improvement.
Riccardo Calafiori has emerged as one of Arsenal's key attackers lately. He’s not just solid defensively; his knack for scoring and assisting makes him an invaluable asset.
Jordan Henderson, now at Chelsea, netted two goals, including a brilliant free-kick. His experience shone through as he confidently took charge, even with younger teammates around him.
Matt Grimes continues to be an unsung hero at Coventry. He has shown he can handle the step up to the Premier League, especially in his performance against Newcastle, where he controlled the game seamlessly.
Rayan Cherki from Manchester City is simply a joy to watch. He embodies the flair and creativity that makes football fun, thriving under pressure and shining in big moments.
Joao Pedro is poised for a breakout season with Chelsea, thanks to the creative support from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer, setting the stage for a goal-scoring spree.
Jeremy Doku was a game-changer for Manchester City, providing a goal and an assist, and he even played a part in getting Ryan Gravenberch sent off. If he keeps this form, City could be on course for major trophies this season.
Lastly, Enzo Maresca has not only led Manchester City to a crucial win at Anfield but has also united the team with a strong mentality. His tactical decision to bring in Doku proved crucial, contributing to their current dominance at the top of the league.
