Wheatus Rocks the Pitch: US Band Sponsors Worcestershire Youth Team
Nunnery Wood U13s Phoenix has a new look, thanks to an exciting partnership with the iconic US rock band Wheatus. This unique alliance blossomed when coach Graham, a long-time fan, reached out to the band for sponsorship after meeting them at a concert in Gloucester with his son, Bertie. Graham was convinced that Wheatus’ logo would shine on their football kits, and his cheeky request to sponsor the team was met with enthusiasm from the band. Since their debut album dropped in 2000, Graham has been a devoted follower of Wheatus. He even won tickets to meet the band at a recent gig, where he introduced young Bertie to their music, despite Bertie being too young to attend the show. Thanks to some behind-the-scenes help from the band, Bertie got to meet his musical heroes, and that's how the friendship with bassist Matthew began. Wheatus, known for their chart-topping hits, formed back in 1995, and their music continues to resonate with fans. Frontman Brendan B Brown was quick to say yes when asked about sponsoring the youth team. "It was an easy decision," he remarked. "Graham has become part of our extended family, and we want to help kids get involved in sports." Brown believes that providing financial support can help eliminate barriers for young athletes. "Just knowing that a little funding can get kids on the pitch is really fulfilling for us," he added. The newly branded kits have Brown excited, calling them 'rad and totally awesome.' He even joked about the possibility of an acoustic performance for the team if they keep up their success. Bertie chimed in, expressing his hopes for a private gig, saying it would be "really cool" if Wheatus could perform for the team. With the band’s support and unique connection, Nunnery Wood U13s Phoenix is set to make their mark both on and off the pitch.
